As a working mom and homemaker, maintaining a healthy routine can be a real challenge, especially when life gets busy. But I’ve learned that overcoming distractions and rebuilding my morning routine is essential for both my physical health and mental well-being. In this post, I’ll share my journey of how I got off track, realized the importance of regaining control, and the steps I’ve taken to get back on track.
The Challenges of Maintaining a Healthy Routine

It all started when we celebrated the housewarming ceremony for our new home. What was meant to be a joyful occasion turned into a whirlwind of preparations and rituals. Between cleaning, arranging, and hosting, I was running on fumes. After two days of back-to-back activities drained me, I found myself unable to focus on my usual morning routine, including my spiritual practices and health-focused habits.
The housewarming ceremony was a deeply meaningful occasion, and I couldn’t have done it without the support of my family. If you want to learn more about the significance of a traditional Indian housewarming ceremony (Grihapravesham) and how we celebrated, you can read more in my previous blog post: Traditional Indian Housewarming Ceremony: A Memorable Celebration.
During this busy time, winter also took a toll on my family’s health. My daughter caught a severe cold and cough, which meant late nights of comforting her. On top of that, I developed sinus problems, making it hard to step outside without feeling a heavy, painful head. These health issues led to restless nights, and soon enough, my morning routine was the last thing on my mind.
How do you stay on track when life’s chaos gets in the way?
I realized that prioritizing my routine and health was crucial. Without that, I felt more stressed, fatigued, and frustrated. It was time for a change, and the first step was getting back to my morning routine.
Overcoming the Trap of Distractions and Procrastination

"Maya" is a powerful force
Even after the health issues settled down, I realized I wasn’t getting back to my original habits. As you know, "Maya" is a powerful force—it’s hard to escape from the pull of things that give us instant gratification, like sleeping in or mindlessly scrolling through social media. But when I really thought about it, I missed the peace I felt when I followed my routine. It wasn’t about perfection; it was about consistency and balance.
To regain my peace, I needed to focus on the basics again: health, wellness, and spiritual growth. This meant getting up earlier, making time for self-care, and focusing on the things that truly matter. But how?How I Realized the Importance of Prioritizing Health
Small habits make a big difference
I realized that health had always been a priority for me, but my current situation was pushing me further from the habits I worked so hard to establish. During this reflection, I couldn’t help but think back to my earlier fitness journey (which I shared in my blog post: Fitness Journey After 30: A Working Woman’s Path to Wellness). That post helped me reflect on the importance of consistency and balance—both in fitness and maintaining a morning routine.
It was a wake-up call to get back on track with my healthy habits. I recognized that small habits make a big difference in the long run. Even when life gets hectic, staying true to my routine would bring back the clarity and energy I had lost.
Waking up early for prayer and meditation
Another key realization came when I reflected on the early mornings I used to spend practicing Sanatana Dharma—a practice that helped me stay connected to my spiritual self. Waking up early for prayer and meditation had been one of the most fulfilling aspects of my routine, and I knew I had to reconnect with it. If you want to learn more about how waking up early helped me align with my spiritual practice, check out my post: Waking Up Early & Sanatana Dharma: A Spiritual Woman’s Journey.
Rebuilding My Morning Routine: A Personal Journey

Celebrating progress along the way
Rebuilding my morning routine wasn’t something I did overnight. It was a gradual process, and like many of you, I struggled with distractions and interruptions along the way. As I mentioned earlier, life got busy—between the housewarming ceremony, managing health issues, and juggling family responsibilities, my routine fell apart.
I started by recognizing that I needed to take responsibility for my own well-being and that meant making time for myself again, even if it was just for a few moments in the morning. Slowly, I began carving out time in my day to reflect on what truly mattered to me.

In the mornings, I allowed myself to wake up earlier, not because I had to, but because I realized how much more peaceful and centered I felt when I started the day on my own terms. The mornings that once felt chaotic began to feel like an opportunity to reconnect with myself—whether through a simple moment of silence, prayer, or enjoying a nourishing breakfast.
This process wasn't perfect, but it was mine. There were days when I fell short, when distractions took over, and I let go of my routine. But with each day, I found myself getting a little more focused and grounded.
The Takeaway: It's All About Awareness and Action
The journey back to my best self was not an overnight transformation. It was about taking small, consistent actions that ultimately led to a healthier, more balanced lifestyle. Yes, distractions will always be there, but I’ve learned that recognizing them and taking action to get back on track is the key.
If you’re struggling to rebuild your morning routine or focus on your health, take it one step at a time. Start small, celebrate your progress, and remember that it’s okay to stumble. What matters most is your willingness to reflect, adjust, and keep moving forward.
Focus on what truly matters
I hope my journey inspires you to prioritize yourself, regain your morning routine, and focus on a healthier, more balanced life. We all have distractions, but with awareness and action, we can stay focused on what truly matters.
