In my early 30s, I reached a point where I didn’t recognize my own energy levels anymore. As a working woman in India managing office responsibilities, home, and motherhood, my health slowly moved to the background. I wasn’t ill, but I wasn’t truly healthy either. I felt tired, bloated, irritated, and constantly drained — a common experience in the fitness journey of a working woman.

Before my daughter Anjali was born, I once followed a very strict diet for six months and lost nearly six kilograms. At that stage, my responsibilities were fewer, and managing food and routine felt easier. That phase taught me discipline, but it didn’t prepare me for the realities of fitness for working mothers.

After motherhood, when I tried to follow the same strict diet, my body reacted very differently. I felt exhausted, mentally drained, and low on energy. Managing work, home, and parenting while dieting became overwhelming. That was when I realized that fitness after 30 for working women cannot follow the same rules as before.

Like many households in India, my daily meals mostly included rice-based food. Although I ate regular home-cooked meals, I constantly felt bloated. I was physically full, yet mentally unsatisfied. This phase made me understand that eating regularly does not always mean eating right. As women enter their 30s, issues like nutrient deficiencies, low calcium levels, and lack of protein begin to affect energy levels, especially for women balancing multiple roles every day.

Instead of pushing myself into restrictive diets, I focused on balance. I naturally moved towards lighter, vegetable-rich meals with better protein intake. My breakfasts became simpler and nourishing, lunches focused more on vegetables, and dinners lighter and easier to digest. This approach felt realistic and sustainable — an important factor in sustainable weight loss for women after 30.

Within just 10 to 15 days, I lost around three kilograms, particularly the stubborn fat around my stomach. More importantly, I felt active, lighter, and mentally calmer. This phase made me believe that healthy eating for busy working women is more about quality than quantity.

One of the biggest lessons I learned is that no fitness routine lasts without self-awareness. Until we understand where we stand today, transformation feels temporary. I stopped comparing myself to others and instead observed women who were healthier and more consistent. I reflected on what they were doing differently and what I could realistically adapt.

This mindset shift helped me move forward with clarity rather than pressure — a crucial step for any fitness journey of women after 30.

One of the biggest lessons I learned is that transformation doesn’t last without awareness. Until you truly understand where you stand today, any fitness or weight-loss journey will feel temporary.

Evaluating yourself honestly, observing healthier people without comparing, and learning what works for your own body are crucial steps. When I started noticing what others were doing differently and reflected on what I lacked, it gave me clarity rather than pressure.
